Rady Allahu ‘AnhuGratitude on the bounty of joined hearts in love

Says Allah, the Exalted:
And remember with gratitude Allah’s favour on you for you were enemies and He joined your hearts in love. (Qur’an, Surah Āl-i-‘Imran, verse 103)
The aya enjoins that Allah, the Exalted, be rendered gratitude for this favour of linking hearts in love, the favour He has bestowed upon them after years of violent hostility which raged between the Aws and the Khazrajis – and they are the protectors of the Covenant of Allah and His Apostle. The aya refers to them in particular and to the remaining Arabs in general. For they were locked in feuds, dissension and extortion between themselves until such time that Allah sent His Apostle and revealed His Book and ended the rancour, hostility and feuds, and they became brothers in Allah’s Covenant and dedication – and in defense of His Apostle and in glorification of its rites and practices. While proclaiming the favours He has bestowed upon His Apostle, upon whom be peace, Allah says:
He it is that has strengthened you with His aid and with (the company of) the Believers. And (moreover) He has put affection between their hearts. Not that if you spent all that is on the earth could you have produced that affection, but Allah has done it: for He is Exalted in might, Wise (Qur’an, Surah Anfal, verses 62-63).
Indeed, before the Apostle was sent, they were on the edge of the chasm of fire because of infidelity and idolatry. And Allah rescued them by prescribing to them Tawhid – the Indivisible Oneness of Allah – and obedience to His Commandments and accordingly Allah, the Exalted, wanted them to render to Him gratitude for that and acknowledge their obligation for the favour bestowed, that is their rescue from waywardness and unity after factionalism. And He warned them against the causes of dissension and discord after harmony and unity:
Thus doth Allah make His signs clear to you that you may be guided, (Qur’an, Surah Āl-i-‘Imran, verse 103)
that is so that the guidance you already have gets another guidance added upon it. As Allah, the Exalted, says:
But to those who receive guidance, He increases the (light of) Guidance and bestows upon them their Piety and Restraint (from evil)” (Qur’an, Surah Muhammad, verse 17).
