Chapter 5
Fasting
1. Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If a person does not refrain from bad and useless talk and indecent activities, Allah has no need that he should abstain from eating and drinking” (that is, Allah has no need of his fast). (al-Bukhari).
2. Hadrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “One who fast throughout the month of Ramadan, followed by fasting six days of Shawwal (after ‘Id al-Fitr), is as good as if he fasted throughout the year”. (Muslim)
