QUIZZES ON ISLAM
1.Surah al-Fatiha
Al-Hamdu Lillahi Rabbil Aalamin
Ar-Rahman-ir-Rahim
Maliki Yawmid-Din
Iyyaka na‘budu wa Iyyaka nasta‘in
Ihdinas-siratal mustaqim
Siratalladhina an‘amta ‘alayhim
ghayril maghdubi ‘alayhim
wa lad-daallin
Amin.
In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
The Beneficent, The Merciful.
Owner of the Day of Judgement.
You only do we worship and You only we ask for help.
Guide us on the Straight Path.
The Path of those whom You have favoured,
not (the path) of those on whom is Your anger, nor of those who go astray. (1:1-7)
2. Other than the Arkan al-Islam, some of the good deeds that have been mentioned in the Holy Qur’an are:
(i) To obey Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala) and His Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam),(ii) to love Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala) and His Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam),
(iii) to take care of orphans, widows and the needy,
(iv) to feed and clothe the poor,
(v) to do justice and be fair
(vi) to be of good character,
(vii)to be kind, gentle and merciful,
(viii)to propagate the noble teachings of Islam,
(ix)to do the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala),
(x)to recite salawaat (blessings) on Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam).
3. Some of the major sins are:
(i) Ascribing partners to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala); by, for example, worshipping idols,
(ii) lying,
(iii) backbiting,
(iv) slandering,
(v) giving a false testimony,
(vi) drinking alcohol, selling it, or dealing in it,
(vii)gambling,
(viii)usurping someone else’s property,
(ix)abusing others and using foul language,
(x)killing someone without just cause.
4. Some of the diseases of the heart that we should avoid are:
(i)arrogance and pride,
(ii)malice and hatred,
(iii)envy,
(iv)miserliness and greed,
(v)lust and carnal desires.
5. The talbiya is:
Labbayk Allahumma labbayk
Labbayk laa sharika Laka labbayk
Innal Hamda wan-Ni‘mata Laka wal Mulk
Laa sharika Laka
Here I am O Allah at Your service, here I am.
Here I am at Your service. You have no partner (only You are to be worshipped).
Here I am at Your service.
Indeed, all Praise and Blessing and Sovereignty is for You.
You have no partner.
6. One of the du‘as (supplications) from the Qur’an is:
Rabbana aatinaa fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil Aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa ‘adhaaban naar
Our Lord! Give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of hell-fire. (2:201)
Another du‘a is:
Rabbi zidni ‘ilmaa
My Lord! Increase me in knowledge, (20:114)
7. Some of the things that Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) taught us to recite on various occasions are:
(i)When starting to do something, say: Bismillah (In the Name of Allah),
(ii)when you finish eating or drinking, say: Al-Hamdu Lillah (All Praise is for Allah),
(iii)when intending to do something, say: inshaa Allah (if Allah Wills),
(iv)when something is being praised, say: Subhan Allah (Glorified is Allah),
(v)when expressing appreciation, say: maashaa Allah (whatever Allah Wishes),
(vi)when thanking someone, say: JazakAllah (may Allah reward you),
(vii)when awakening from sleep, say: laa ilaaha Illallah (none is to be worshipped but Allah),
(viii)when repenting from a sin, say: Astaghfirullah (I beg forgiveness from Allah),
(ix)when a death message is received, say: innaa Lillahi wa innaa Ilayhi raaji‘un
(indeed, we are for Allah and indeed to Him we shall return),
(x)when participating in prayer, say Ameen (O Allah! Answer our prayers).
8.Some of the many noble attributes of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) that we should try to follow are:
(i)to be honest, truthful, and trustworthy,
(ii)to be generous,
(iii)to love and respect our parents, and elders
(iv)to forgive and pardon,
(v)to be thankful,
(vi)to be pious,
(vii)to be sincere,
(viii)to be brave and courageous,
(ix)to patiently endure difficulties,
(x)to love and worship Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala).
9.The third holiest masjid in Islam is Masjid al-Aqsa.
10.As-Salatu Ibrahimiyya is:
Allahumma salli ‘alaa Muhammad-in wa ‘alaa aali Muhammad-in kamaa sallayta ‘alaa Ibrahim-a wa ‘alaa aali Ibrahim-a Innaka Hamid-un Majid
Allahumma baarik ‘alaa Muhammad-in wa ‘alaa aali Muhammad-in kamaa baarakta ‘alaa Ibrahim-a wa ‘alaa aali Ibrahim-a Innaka Hamid-un Majid
O Allah! Bless our master Sayyidina Muhammad and the Family of Sayyidina Muhammad as You blessed Sayyidina Ibrahim and the Family of Sayyidina Ibrahim.
Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.
O Allah! Bestow favours on Sayyidina Muhammad and the Family of Sayyidina Muhammad As You bestowed favours on Sayyidina Ibrahim and the Family of Sayyidina Ibrahim.
Surely, You are Prasieworthy, Glorious.
