DARS 1: GOOD NEWS FOR THE SERVANTS OF ALLĀH
In the words of my master, my grandfather, may Allāh make people benefit from him, who explained these words of Allāh, The Exalted from the Qur’ān.
So give good news to My servants; those who listen to the word, then follow the best thereof. (39:17-18)
My grandfather, may Allāh be pleased with him, explained: -
So give good news to My servants. (39:17)
O Muhammad!
That is, give them glad tidings. And the glad tidings! These are the news of goodness and of the happiness with what makes for ease.
From whom are these good news? From Allāh, The Majestic and The Most High, in whose hand is the Kingdom of everything.
So give good news to my servants. (39:17)
(It refers to the servants) who are linked to Allah through certitude, who turn to him in repentance, and are under His attentive care.
Those who listen to the word. (39:18)
That is, the word of Right Guidance, the word to set things right, the word of Divine Guidance, and the word of knowledge, in exhortations and in gatherings such as these and other gatherings of goodness.
Then follow the best thereof. (39:18)
When they hear, they follow the best of the Commands and avoid the prohibitions. They obey when they are commanded with a Command or prohibited with a Prohibition, or guided towards goodness. This is the benefit of listening to the words of the speaker, the speech of the sermonizer, and the wisdom of the sage.
Is it sufficient merely to have an attentive ear? No! It is not sufficient only to have an attentive ear and to merely approve (of what is being said). Even though this is good in itself, the perfect good news is to obtain the Good Pleasure of Allāh, The Majestic and The Exalted. That is the best of protection, the best of pursuits, and the best of virtues. It is to listen attentively and to obey totally and completely.
