DARS 21:
THE NINETY-NINE MOST BEAUTIFUL NAMES OF ALLAH
And he (our shaykh), may Allah make people benefit from him, was asked about the Saying of (our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad) may Allah bless him and his family and grant him peace.
“Indeed Allah has ninety-nine Names; whoever enumerates them, enters Paradise”.
Whether he understands them or does not understand them.
Then, he (our shaykh) explained, may Allah be pleased with him.
The scholars have spoken at length about this. Among them are those who say:
Enumerated them: (meaning) memorized them, and recited them and followed them; and acted according to them, that is, in accordance with their meanings because each Name (of Allah) has a characteristic and it has a manifestation from the ninety-nine manifestations.
(The Attributive Name) Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate) has a manifestation of mercy for human beings.
(The Attributive Name) Al-Malik (The King) has a manifestation of the Kingdom.
You give the kingdom to whom You wish and seize the kingdom from whom You wish. (3:26)
(The Attributive Name) Al-Quddus (The Most Holy) has a manifestation of Sacredness and Purity, that is, there is no partner with Him or any opponent against Him.
(The Attributive Name) As-Salam (The Bestower of Peace) has a manifestation of the existence of safety in the world. If Allah wishes to keep the community safe, He safeguards them, and the opposite of that is that if He wishes to put them to test, he afflicts them.
(The Attributive Name) Al-Aziz (The Honourable). The Honour.
All Honour belongs to Allah. (35:10)
He bestows honour on whom He wishes and he abases whom He wishes.
(The Attributive Name) Al-Jabbar (The Compeller). The Might, and the World of Divine Power, and the Power (of Allah).
(The Attributive Name) Al-Latif (The Knower of subtleties) has a manifestation of knowing the subtleties of the things.
(The Attributive Name) Al-Khaliq (The Creator):
Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky and the earth? (35:3)
And his Saying (the Saying of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace):
“he enters Paradise”,
(that is), whoever enumerates them and acts according to their manifestations. So the complete enumeration and the total help (of Allah) is with the one who recites them and understands their meanings, and actualizes their meanings.
(The Saying): Acquire the Attributes of Allah but do not name yourselves with His (Attributive) Names.
The most dear to us are those who enumerate them and memorize them and recite them. There are some who have made them their daily (optional) additional recitation. They enter Paradise with them and with their meanings as faithful Muslim believers.
