DARS 24: THE DAY OF PREDESTINATION
In the words of my master, my grandfather, may Allah spread his benefit, when he explained this Saying of Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Family and grant him peace.
The souls are as armed forces. Those among them who know are united, and those among them who deny are divided.
My master explained, may Allah be pleased with him.
The acquaintance between us to-day and between brothers in Mombasa, and in Makkah and in Hadramawt, and in the east and in the west is not of to-day. It is from that Day of Pre-destination when Allah gathered all the souls and took from them the covenant. So the brethren are brethren from that Day and the opponents are opponents from that Day. For example, your brother from the same father and mother does not love you and you do not love him. And there comes along someone whom you don’t know and he sits with you for a little while and you love him and he loves you and friendship is formed between you and him. So from where does this friendship come and from where does this love come? It comes from that Day (of Pre-destination).
Al-Imam al-Haddad said:
The gentle breeze of talk of love
is as ancient as the Day of Pre-destination
We love in this world because we loved that Day.
Once in a gathering, there was al-Habib Muhammad bin Salih al-‘Attas as well as al-Habib Ahmad bin Hasan al-‘Attas, both of whom talked about this topic, so al-Habib Muhammad nodded and said (to me), “O Ahmad! Look! The people whom I recognized on that Day with my soul, I can now recognize them here in this world.”
