DARS 31: PRECEDING TIME PERIODS ARE BETTER THAN THE ONES THAT FOLLOW
In the words of my master, my grandfather, may Allah spread his benefit when he explained this Hadith (Saying) of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
A time period (era) does not come except that the one which comes after it is more evil.
He explained, may Allah be pleased with him.
Our time period is better than the one which will follow while the one earlier was better than the one we are in.
A poet has said:
O time period! I weep in it, whereas
the time periods that have passed, I cry out for them.Others have said: Even the earlier thieves were better than the later ones because they had gentleness and mercy. In the same way, every group that comes is worse than the one that went before. So as a result, people see time as a sword. If it is not overcome with a good deed, it is cut off. So when a good thing is seen in it, precede in it. To look out for leisure time is idleness while to wait for an opening (to goodness) is worship because the bestowal of our Lord, the Glorified and the Exalted, is not exclusively for any particular time period. And how many people we have found in later times who are better than those that preceded?
And the awliya (Friends of Allah) and the pious do not disappear in any time period and in any place and through them Allah removes afflictions from creations. The presence of the Friends of Allah and the presence of the pious in all time periods removes afflictions and leads to the showering of blessings. If not one Friend of Allah remained, our Lord would send on the people many types of punishments (or as the Shaykh said in his own words).
