DARS 45: THANK ALLAH FOR ALL HIS FAVOURS

He said, may Allah be pleased with him.
O the best Muhammadan community! And O the best Prophet with us, may Allah bless him!

For a few deeds, we are rewarded with high ranks. (Consider) the phrase Al-Hamdu Lillah (All Praise is for Allah). What is the meaning of Al-Hamdu? It means praise and thankfulness to Allah for what He has given me of good health and food, so for Him is all praise and for Him is thankfulness and for Him is eulogy. So it is the duty of the Muslim to thank Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted, everyday for the favours which only He gives.

And if you tried to enumerate the favours of Allah, you could never count them. (14:34)

So where is the thankfulness?

When someone does something beneficial for you, you say to him: May Allah reward you with good.

And this is the Supremely Beneficent (Allah) and the Great Bestower, Who forever gives you. He gives you good health and He gives you well-being and He gives you a family that loves you. And how many are the favours? The whole universe serves you. O the one with a head blackened (with sin). Allah made the whole universe to serve you. See how man has been honoured. The sun serves him. It is a lamp for him. He sees with it. It softens dryness and kills germs and with it, you keep count of the year. And the moon shines for him. With it grow the fruits, and with it grows the food, and with it grows the nourishment.

And He has made subservient for you all whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth by His Command. (45:13)

So what is required of man? It is required of him that he thanks Him.

O Allah! Provide us the best attachment with You, O Lord! He wishes from us that we be attached to Him. And if we are attached to our Lord, goodness will overflow to us.

(Contrarily) heedlessness is a misfortune. (Allah says in the Holy Qur’an):

That is because they belied Our Signs and were heedless of them. (7:146)

Or as he (my master) explained.
