MANBA‘ AL-IMDĀD: A FOUNTAIN OF HELP

DARS 50 : WORSHIPPING ALLAH IN LAYLATUL QADR

My master, my grandfather, may Allah spread his benefit, explained about the virtues of standing up for worship in the month of Ramadan.  He said, may Allah be pleased with him.

The (Prophetic) Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), exerted with much worship and more repentance in the month of Ramadan than he exerted himself in other months.  And Allah had already forgiven him his past and future.  But even so, he was the foremost worshipper, and the first among those who are quick to do good deeds and the first of those who exert.  And he used to exert himself in these nights more than he exerted in other nights because of the virtues of the last ten nights compared to the rest of the month of Ramadan.  And he commanded, on him be blessing and peace, to search for Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power, Night of Destiny), in it.  And Laylatul Qadr is in it, there is no doubt.  And it is in a night of the nights of the month of Ramadan, there is no doubt.

So all those who pray Salat al-‘Isha in congregation and (Salat) at-Tarawih in congregation, get a part of the Laylatul Qadr.  But it behoves an intelligent faithful believer to be prepared and keep awake for Laylatul Qadr in all the nights of Ramadan.  The intention is that Laylatul Qadr comes to him while he is immersed in good deeds, so he fulfills the rights of the nights of the month of Ramadan.

So one who breaks the fast and relaxes a little at his home, then comes to the masjid and prays Salat at-Tarawih and returns to his home, then recites as much as is easy for him to do so from the Qur’an, and stands up for worship in the later part of the night and prays as much as is easy for him to do so of the Tahajjud, so that most of his time he is in the worship of Allah, then he has already realized part of the qiyam (standing up for worship).

They made a total mistake who prayed Tarawih at 7:30 pm or 7:45 pm, not differentiating the nights of Ramadan from other months.  In months other than Ramadan he (also) prays at 7:30 pm.  Such people do not attach importance to worship.  If you tell them that at 10 pm or 11 pm, there is going to be buying and selling, or money is going to be distributed, they will sit in the masjid from Maghrib.  But in these nights of Ramadan, certificates (of spiritual ranks) are distributed, merits are distributed, spiritual lights are distributed and great things are distributed with which a person becomes blissful and is helped in the Hereafter and becomes well-pleasing to Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted.

So where is the preparedness for Laylatul Qadr?  The one who stands to pray at 7:30 pm or 7:45 pm and after his Prayer is done, he returns to you to pass time or to play, then he does not obtain Laylatul Qadr.  It is necessary to stand up for worship in Laylatul Qadr.  And the night is to be esteemed and a person has to immerse himself in the remembrance of Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted.  So when the man returns to his home, he should consider this night a bounty and search for it.

All nights are not Laylatul Qadr.  Nor are all the houses the Ka‘ba.  Nor are all the mountains 'Arafah.  It is but in (one of the) special nights and special days.  If a man compels himself in it and exerts, he obtains great help and Enabling Grace from Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted.

O Allah! O the One who grants success to people of goodness with goodness, and helps them to (attain) it, grant us success to goodness and help us to (attain) it. (Amin).
