MANBA‘ AL-IMDĀD: A FOUNTAIN OF HELP

A Compendium of the talks of:

AL-HABĪB AHMAD MASH-HŪR BIN TĀHĀ AL-HADDĀD
Rady Allāhu ‘Anhu

Compiled by his grandson:

As-Sayyid Muhammad bin Mustafā Bū Numay
Rahmatullāhi ‘alayh

DARS 51: THE SEARCH FOR KNOWLEDGE BY THE SAHABA (Rady Allahu ‘Anhum)

Then my master said, may Allah be pleased with him.

The supplication (that was just recited) is of Sayyidina Ibrahim bin Ad-ham. It is a multiple supplication. It is a blessed supplication. Memorize it! And if someone has memorized it, he should teach it to another. This supplication has its origin in the incident of a Companion of the Prophetic Messenger of Allah who lived in a far off land from Madina, at a distance of a journey of twelve days. And he was a brave, swift-running rider.

So one day, a new thought came to him that said to him: what is the sign of Allah about whom He loves and the sign of Allah about whom He does not love? He wanted to know about the sign. So he remained thinking whether he was the beloved of Allah or not. What is the sign that Allah indeed loves him? This question became of great importance to him.

So he rode his camel and went to Madina to ask Allah’s Prophetic Messenger (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) about this matter. So he came upon the Prophetic Messenger of Allah in his masjid while he was with his Companions, and greeted him, and said: “O Prophetic Messenger of Allah! I have come from a far away land. I was thirsty by day and I stayed awake at night, and in four days, I covered the distance of a journey of twelve days. And I have come to ask you one question.” So the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) said to him: “Well done! Well done! You have come from a long distance to ask me one question?” So the Prophet, may Allah bless him, was happy with him and asked him, “And what is this question?” So he replied, “I have come, O Prophetic Messenger of Allah, to ask you about Allah’s sign of whom He loves and about Allah’s sign of whom He does not love”.

So the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) looked at him from the niche of Prophethood, a glance of Muhammadiyyah to penetrate the depth of his heart and fill his heart with light; and the Prophet, may Allah bless him, asked him, “How did you wake up this morning?” So he was guided to another spiritual state and replied; “I woke up loving goodness and loving good deeds, and loving good people.” So the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) said to him, “This is the sign of Allah about whom He loves.”

Then the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam) asked him, “What is your name?” So he said, “My name is Zayd al-Khayl (Zayd of the horses)”. So the Prophet said to him: “But you are Zayd al-Khayr (Zayd of goodness)”.

So see O my brethren, how they (the Companions), may Allah be pleased with them, desired to settle the big questions. To settle the question, he covered a distance of twelve days in four days until he satisfied his mind about his religion and he satisfied his mind about his Lord. And we have readily obtained answers to these questions in a clearly most well-coming manner. Religious schools are there for us with the Grace of Allah, in which we hear the Word of Allah, and the Sayings of the Prophetic Messenger of Allah, and the explanations of the pious predecessors, may Allah be pleased with them.

May Allah open our hearts until they are filled with Faith, and filled with Certitude, and filled with Guidance, and may it spread from one to another. You see goodness spreads, and evil spreads, and a friend follows the example of his friend.

The companionship of the outstanding people is a medication for the heart
it increases liveliness and strength in the heart

And the companionship of the evil is blindness for the heart
it increases the sickness of a sick heart

The companionship of the outstanding people is like these gatherings, like these assemblies, like these study sessions. They increase light in the heart and they increase nearness to Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted. All praise is for Allah Who guided us to this and we would not have been guided if Allah had not guided us.
