MANBA‘ AL-IMDĀD: A FOUNTAIN OF HELP

A Compendium of the talks of:

AL-HABĪB AHMAD MASH-HŪR BIN TĀHĀ AL-HADDĀD
Rady Allāhu ‘Anhu

Compiled by his grandson:

As-Sayyid Muhammad bin Mustafā Bū Numay

DARS 63:
RECITE RATIB AL-‘ATTAS AND RATIB AL-HADDAD EVERYDAY

In the words of my master, my grandfather, may Allah spread his benefit, when he explained the virtues of the two Ratibs, Ratib al-‘Attas and Ratib al-Haddad.

He said, may Allah be pleased with him.

There is great treasure in both of them and success for someone who recites them every day. Someone who makes the intention of reciting both of them together should begin with the Ratib of al-Habib ‘Umar al-‘Attas. Someone who makes the intention of reciting them at two different times (in a day) may begin with any one of them as he wishes.

As far as the wording of Imam al-Haddad in his Ratib is concerned:

“Yaa Dha’l Jalaali wa’l Ikraam amintnaa ‘alaa Dini’l Islam”.

O the Possessor of Majesty and Honour, cause us to die on the religion of Islam.

Some scholars say that it contains the Greatest Attributive Name of Allah.

There are people who recite:

“Mitnaa ‘alaa Dini’l Islam”, without the letter “alif” (“a”) in “amitnaa”.

Ash-Shaykh ‘Abdallah Ba Sawdan who wrote a commentary on the Ratib said that in the language of the Arabs, (sometimes) some words are shortened. So those who intend to recite with the letter “alif”, recite “amitnaa”, but to recite “mitnaa” is permitted. But as far as grammatical rules are concerned, it is “amitnaa ‘alaa Dini’l Islam”. But to follow the common people who recite “mitnaa” is the same, according to al-Habib Ahmad bin Hasan al-‘Attas who used to recite “mitnaa”. Brother Muhammad bin ‘Alawi Bu Numay informed us that even al-Habib ‘Umar bin Sumayt used to recite “mitnaa ‘alaa Dini’l Islam” (O Allah) (cause us to die on the religion of Islam).

Be as it may, continue with these two great Ratibs. There is great benefit in them.

O Allah! Inspire us to our right conduct, and make us perform deeds that make You pleased with us, and make us from “those who remember Allah with much remembrance”, with the blessing of our pious predecessors in this world and in the Hereafter. Amin.
